Amarjit Bassan

I grew up in Southall, West London. My work in the arts began as an actor where I trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The journey took me to Los Angeles where I trained at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts. I worked with many prominent theatre companies including Tamasha, Kali, and Rifco as well as in the West End. My TV work led to regular collaborations with ITV, Channel Four, Sky, and the BBC.

Over six years ago, I moved towards writing.  My work has been recognized by Film London and the British Urban Film Festival where my first screenplay was given a staged reading at Channel Four.

In 2016 I became a Rifco Associate, a program set up to provide support and guidance to British Asian artists in creating original work.  My project received a scratch performance as part of the British Asian Festival and was subsequently awarded Arts Council funding to be developed into a new play, Southall Park. The play was performed at Watford Palace Theatre as part of the British Asian Festival 2018 and Bloomsbury Theatre London.

I completed an MA in Screenwriting in Film and Television at Royal Holloway in 2018.

In 2019 I was shortlisted for the BBC Writers Academy led by John Yorke.

2020 saw me selected to be part of the 4Screenwriting course with Philip Shelley.
